Internships FAQ

Internships are offered year round! Fall, spring, summer, you name it, we got it.

At this time, all internships are expected to be on-site in one of our locations in Columbia or Springfield, Mo. We want to see that bright, smiling face standing at the vending machine!

If you're interning during your academic year, expect to work 15-20 hours a week between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday-Friday. During the summer, interns typically work 30-40 hours a week. Remember, you're a student first. We are flexible with your class schedule and you will work with your manager to determine your schedule.

No way! We have a wide variety of internship opportunities for students of many majors.

Our interns have the opportunity to experience several different areas of Veterans United, including accounting, business, finance, operations, people services, sales, marketing and technology.

If you have your undergraduate degree, congratulations! Rather than check out internship positions, we encourage you to look at our many early-career opportunities. Our internships are specifically for students currently enrolled in college.

Many of our interns come from schools that require an internship for a class. We recommend you talk with your academic advisor to be sure, but typically our interns have been able to utilize this internship for their class.

Be yourself! We want to get to know you from your application and during your interview. Take a deep breath and try to put your nerves to the side. Our recruiters use your interview experience to match you with the best internship opportunity within VU, even if it's not the one you applied for.

Spend time reviewing our careers website, our LinkedIn page, and social media pages. Submit the best version of your resume, and a cover letter never hurts. Practice answering interview questions with a friend or family member and arrive or login to your interview on time.

It's a possibility! About 45 percent of our interns transition to full-time positions at VU.

Outside of the time you spend working alongside your team, you'll participate in events like:

  • Speaker panels with VU leaders, some who are former interns themselves!
  • Networking and Q&A opportunities with employees from a variety of teams
  • Stephen M.R. Covey Speed of Trust training
  • StrengthsFinder assessment and associated activities
  • Team building and social events
